Defining Continuing Education Activity
Continuing education activity incorporates all educationally based outreach programs offered or hosted by the university. It documents outreach activities on behalf of the university. It may, but need not, confer recognition of individual participation or successful completion through the issuance of CEUs. It allows for recording and reporting of all forms of the university’s continuing education effort.
Examples
Programs that seek to improve work-related skills, provide personal learning enrichment, support community or economic development, or encourage civic engagement are recognized as continuing education activity. Examples of continuing education activity include:
- Workshops, conferences, seminars, training programs, professional or executive education, short courses, and other structured educational experiences greater than five hours in length.
- Computer training, in-service training for teachers, health worker training, certification, licensure, or accreditation maintenance, professional education programs, non-credit certificate programs, travel-study programs.
- Educational-based youth programs, or other programs for youth or adults that are designed to enrich, enlighten, or inform the participant.
- Any program that provides documentation of recognition for licensing bodies, professional associations, or other professional organizations.
Programs may be delivered synchronously or asynchronously. Formats may include (but are not limited to) classroom instruction, online learning, conferences, consortiums, and lectures.
It's easy to report and it's important
USC departments, colleges, and schools are required to report Continuing Education activity to our office as outlined in University Policy ACAF 1.70 [pdf]. Continuing education activity must be reported within fourteen days of the program conclusion.
Report Multiple Programs
If you have multiple programs to report, please complete the Continuing Education Activity Report [xlsx] and submit it via email to [email protected]. Please be sure to include your contact information and department or division name in the email. You do not need to complete this for programs receiving official University of South Carolina CEUs.
Report Individual Programs
If you have any questions about reporting individual programs, please email your question to [email protected].
