We invite you and your high school leaders to participate in the Vocal Arts Conference on Saturday, September 28, 2024 on the University of South Carolina campus. In reimagining our outreach programs, we sought to create an event that brings together the best and brightest young choral artists in our region to collaborate and make music together. Students will spend the day working with a guest clinician in an engaging, energized environment of high musical expectations. This year’s clinician will be Dr. Derrick Fox, Professor of Choral Music and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Creative Endeavors at Michigan State University. Teachers will have the opportunity to attend professional development sessions scheduled during student rehearsals.
Student Selection
We invite each school to bring up to eight to twelve student leaders (balanced SATB quartets are preferred, with no more than three students per part). When selecting students for participation, we ask that teachers prioritize those interested in studying music or who plan to continue singing in college. Singers will learn all the music at the event; therefore, please select students who read music well and exhibit exemplary rehearsal behavior.
