Background

Dr. Corbett received her Bachelor of Arts in nursing from Carroll College in Helena, MT, a Master of Nursing from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, and PhD, with a focus on chronic condition outcomes, from Loyola University Chicago.  She was one of two nurses nationwide to receive a postdoctoral fellowship from Pfizer, Inc (2002-2004), which focused on innovations in health outcomes.

Teaching

Dr. Corbett’s teaching roles have included undergraduate, masters and PhD coursework, but she primarily teaches in the PhD in Nursing Science program.

Research

Dr. Corbett’s research activities focus on individual and health system strategies to improve chronic illness management, aging in place, and patient safety. Her research has been funded by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ Research and Education Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institutes of Health, and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute. Dr. Corbett is currently the primary investigator on a Prisma Health-Health Sciences Center seed grant and the project director of a large CDC/DHEC subaward to increase the number of certified nursing assistants in South Carolina.

Dissemination

Dissemination activities have included national and international presentations and authorship on 90 peer-reviewed publications.

Professional Practice

Dr. Corbett began her career working on medical units for the Veteran’s Administration hospitals. She has worked as a staff nurse for several home health care agencies. She served as the Scholar in Residence from Providence Health Care in Spokane Washington from 2009-2012.
