First-Year Flotilla is a chance for incoming Honors College students to enjoy a few hours of fun in the sun with their new classmates while kayaking down the beautiful Saluda River. Students meet in the Honors College Residence Hall to sign-in, turn in paperwork and board the buses. They are then transported to the river put-in to receive kayaks or canoes and instructions. Next, it’s time for a guided kayak trip down the river, before returning to the Honors College Residence Hall.
This trip is reserved for Honors College first-year students and selected Honors Peer Mentors. No kayaking experience necessary! Participation is not mandatory, but we truly hope you will take advantage of the chance to explore the natural beauty of Columbia and make new friends.
Flotilla is sponsored by the Honors College at no cost to you!
We recommend you wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting wet or muddy. Students often wear shorts and t-shirts over bathing suits. We recommend light tennis shoes or protective sandals. You may want to leave your favorite sneakers or sunglasses at home!

If you require accommodations to participate in Flotilla, please indicate this in the registration form. We will contact you if additional information is needed.
The first month of college is a busy time for new students, and we understand that some students may have other commitments, such as sorority rush or marching band practice. No need to worry – there will be plenty of chances to build your Honors community. We look forward to seeing you at the next Honors event!
