Bio 

David Whiteman (Ph.D., University of North Carolina, 1981) is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science.  He was the first Faculty Principal at the Green Quad and served as Undergraduate Director and Graduate Director in the department.  He has been a visiting faculty member at the Brookings Institution, the University of Limerick, and University College Dublin.

Research 

Professor Whiteman’s research interests include legislative politics, green politics, and political communication, particularly the role of documentary film in contemporary social movements.  His research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation. 

Teaching 

Professor Whiteman regularly taught undergraduate courses on “Film, Politics, and Social Change,” “Green Politics,” and “Introduction to Politics.”  His graduate courses included “Political Communication,” “Legislative Politics,” and “Qualitative Research Methods.”
