Background

Dr. Sheryl Mitchell earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from the University of South Carolina.  Dr. Mitchell is a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. 

Teaching

Dr. Mitchell teaches in the graduate nursing program.  She has served as a project chair for DNP students. She also serves as one of the faculty for South Carolina AHEC's Institute for Primary Care.

Research

Dr. Mitchell's research interest includes vulnerable populations, graduate nursing education, simulation, policy, and breast cancer survivorship.

Dissemination

Dr. Mitchell's dissemination activities have included presentations at local, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Mitchell currently serves as Vice-Chair of the South Carolina Nurses Association's APRN Chapter. She serves as the treasurer for the Coalition for Access to Health Care. She has served on the South Carolina Nurses Association Board of Directors as President, President-Elect, and the Commission Chair on Public Policy and Legislation. She also served as the Chair and Co-Chair of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties' Research SIG.

Professional Practice

Dr. Mitchell is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.  She has practiced in the urgent care, emergency department, and primary care settings.
