Biography
Dr. Bridgmon is an Instructor in the Department of Political Science at the University of South Carolina. Specializing in southern politics, she is a recognized expert on political parties and culture in Alabama. Her research includes tracking issue salience among southern parties, examining levels of unity within parties, demographic representation in southern state legislatures, and regional distinctions on individual issues. She is an active participant and regular contributor to the Citadel Southern Symposium on Southern Politics and its quadrennial Presidential Election in the South series. Professor Bridgmon has also published studies in the American Review of Politics and Criminal Justice Policy Review.
Prior coming to South Carolina, Professor Bridgmon served on faculty at the University of Alabama -- Huntsville and was Associate Professor of Political Science at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, where she was routinely recognized for teaching excellence. She also worked in various positions in local government and nonprofit organizations as a practitioner in the public sector. She earned her PhD in Political Science at the University of Alabama in 2009, where she also received her Master of Public Administration and BA in History.
